LGBTQ+ Alliance
Social Media Coordinator
I worked on the board of the LGBTQ+ Alliance, a student-led organization at Webster University. I was the Social Media Coordinator, and my role was to create advertisements and run our organization's group chat. I also helped brainstorm ideas for events, organize those events, and reserve spaces for them.
Reflection
At the start of my second year at Webster, I was unaware that the previous board for the Alliance had all graduated the Spring beforehand. I went to the first meeting like I did the year before, and the organization's advisor at the time was looking for new board members. If no one took the roles, the organization would be gone for the foreseeable future. I decided to join because I wanted to see the organization thrive, and as a queer student at Webster University I felt like the LGBTQ+ Alliance was important to have.

I did not have a student leadership role like this before, so being a member of the LGBTQ+ Alliance board was a new experience to me. Our team had to bring the organization back to life, and it was rough at times. However, we eventually were able to bring the organization back to the state it was in before the old board team graduated.

I used a lot of my leadership skills throughout this experience. There was a lot of decision making, communication, and problem solving involved in the process. I have been with the LGBTQ+ Alliance for 2 and a half years now, and I am proud to have worked on it for all this time.
